Why Wax
Due to its relatively small size, ski and snowboard wax may not seem to have a big impact on the environment. But a traditional puck of wax is much more toxic than generally known. The traditional fluorinated ski waxes consist of perflourcarbons or PFC. To produce PFC, perfluorooctanoic acid, PFOA, a nearly eternal compound is required. As the PFC’s break down they return to PFOA’s and flow into rivers and streams. PFOA’s have been traced to the blood of dolphins, arctic polar bears and humans. PFOA is a known carcinogen and has been linked to infertility, cancer and liver damage. Also, PFC is a greenhouse gas with a life expectancy of 50,000 years and has a much greater warming effect than carbon dioxide. To protect from this, we hand pour our very own Natural Soy Based ski wax that is naturally biodegradable and not harmful to the environment.
