A week ago, July 20th, meant that we have been in business for 1 year. So far I have had an amazing time ever since the beginning, and I cannot see it stopping anytime. I would like to thank those people who have made it possible for us to continue on into another year. It is awesome to see that people are willing to put their trust in us, and our product. It is a conscience decision that some have made to be more aware of the products they buy and the habits that they have, and we are happy that we can offer a product that they can use. The call to action of this post will be that for those who have already gotten on board with the Ocean lifestyle is to spread the word so that our following can grow into a much greater movement than it already is. For everything, Thank you and lets shred this winter!
This year I’m going to give a few behind the scenes looks as to what goes into making the wax. Here is how the bags are made that the wax comes in. It’s pretty self explanatory, so just follow along.
Step 1.Step 2.Step 3.Step 4. Step5. There you have it, 10.11 Ocean bags all pressed and ready to go. Next little look into what we do, will be about the wax, I’m just waiting for a solid block of time to devote to it.
After yesterdays more serious post, I thought that I would share some of the photos from last weekend. We usually take this trip more in the middle of winter, around the end of December. But this year it got pushed back till the beginning of March, and although there was a significant lack of snow we still did all that we’ve ever done with it, and even added some more. From snowmobiling on 4 inches of snow, cross country skiing and dirt biking all in one day; one of the better weekends thats been had.
Cross Country Skiing is by far one of the hardest sports master. I’d put it in the same league as golf. One can be okay, but it will be a long time before they are great.
Stuck due more to lack of snow, than there being too much.
Over 30 turkeys passed in front of us while we were on the sleds.
“Hey, why don’t we try and go through here.” Notice the vintage sleds, and … the snow!
Last night I was at the University of Michigan Hockey game. College hockey is so sweet to go to, probably better than an nhl team. It’s so much faster, and the skill level is just the same. After missing two turns, and driving around the city we finally made it.
You would never know that this was an ice rink from the outside.
The seats we had were so prime. We got tickets for the alumni suite that puts you right over the ice without anything in the way.
Probably the coolest job any college kid could have would be to drive the zamboni.
We got a vip tour of the locker room for authorized personnel only. Definitely a top of the line set up for a college team. Chris who was on the 96′ team when they won the championship was the one who took us through.
I was upnorth for a few days last weekend. I didn’t get any skiing in, but it was fun all the same.
Notice the wax in the bottom. I filmed a waxing sequence while I was up there, which was something I’ve been waiting to do. 30 minutes of film for about 30 seconds of an edit.
This is the most snow we have seen around here so far. Forecast shows that we are supposed to get some more this week though which is great because I’m going on a 5 day trip.
I found this map and pass in my jacket from when I went to Park City last year. Definitely the best trip I’ve ever been on.
We did a giveaway on NewSchooler’s last weekend and oh man was it hectic. It was awesome because every post, email or PM that we got were full of positive comments. It tells us that as hard as we are trying, we must be doing at least one thing right, and we are extremely happy about that. It exciting for us because it is a chance for us to get our wax out there to so many more people that we thought possible in just our first year. Let me tell you, we got soo many requests for a sample that in less than 30 minutes we ran out of our original stock. I thought that it would take maybe the whole night to get rid of what we had. But even after that we had to end the giveaway after less than 2 hours since it began because we had requests that tripled what we first planned on giving out.
We spend the next two days working constantly to catch up so that we could get all the wax out as soon as we could. Monday night was dedicated fully to producing more samples to send out to all the people that made it in under the time cut. Tuesday was spent filling envelopes and getting everything stamped. A lifesaver for us was learning that you can use your printer to print the return and address on a letter. I wasn’t looking forward to filling out all of those envelopes and thankfully I didn’t have to.
All of the waxes went out Wensday 2.3.2010
A little bit of a disclaimer to anyone who sent us a request within the time limit – We put the waxes in envelopes which I’ve been told shouldn’t be a problem for the usps but, they have added some new regulations that we made sure that we complied with but incase some of them come back to us we will be sure to get them back out to you as soon as possible.
Also, thanks to RIME*knits and all of their great comments that they sent our way!
I was up with my friend at his cabin on Shupac Lake last weekend for a little snowmobiling. Well actually a lot; we went twice a day, three days straight. I always have a great time when I get to go up there with him, and this time was no different.
5 – Dirtbikes
4 – Sleds

2 – Handmade Kayaks

Endless fun.
My friends grampa told us this one story about when he had 5 Japanese guys over here for business. So after they were done with the work they had to do, he asked them what they were planning on doing for the rest of the night. To which they replied that they were going to go drive around Detroit to see if they could watch a drug deal. He did explain to them that this is not how stuff like that actually works, and that it was not a well thought out idea.

Now, Detroit is a terrible city, the worst in America, but thats just in the city. Any other place around it, is nothing like it. Though it is quite funny to hear what peoples thoughts are about it. Because if you say “I live in Bloomfield Hills” they have no idea where that is, so you say “Its near Detroit”; and automatically they have some sort of opinion.
I drove through a resort called Crystal Mountain recently, and I really liked it. It wasn’t open though, but they were blowing snow and they said they were going to open in about a week. It was really cool because it was like a small european town. I think there was one kind of large hotel, but everywhere else there were these small, probably two bedroom houses that you could stay in. I heard it was good skiing too, so maybe sometime this winter I’ll have to go check it out.
